Miss Manners didn't die, did she?!?

I have been watching what people blog about and it's become pretty clear that people blog for a number of different reasons.

I have friends that blog as a way of personal journaling (as a sort of therapy), for some it's a way to let people know what you've been up to, and for others, it's a way to keep track of what happened/where type of documentation. I use it for all three.

I have also noticed that people make comments that they shouldn't make. I have talked to a few of my friends that have had people make comments that are just plain rude, assumptive and have turned posts & comments into fodder for gossip.

Personally, I LOVE when people make comments and haven't had rude comments on my page. I have been fortunate that way... but other's haven't. So I have posted the Miss Manners Etiquitte Link (click on the purple). I'm not saying that I have perfect manners when it comes to SO many areas, but I try.

With regard to gossip, a friend recently wrote on her blog that she was fed up with her family and didnt' give a lot of details. All of a sudden, according to "friends" she is divorcing, quit going to church, and is now on a lot "happy pills", almost to the point of addiction. None of these are true. She is still happily married, her 5 kids have been her main source of stress, has a wonderful calling and is getting help, but there aren't pills involved, yet. ☺ Her close friends know the real story, but the "others" have assumed and made her life miserable. So, please be careful about your comments.

What I think people have forgotten about blogs is that you are visiting someone's thoughts about life and in a way, visiting their home. Don't make remarks in the comment area that you wouldn't make to them in person.

It's interesting when you read a comment and wonder why they felt the need to write what they did. I've seen it on others blogs mostly. If you have nothing nice to comment on, then don't comment at all. Lets keep the cyber punches down to a minimum ladies:)

I agree with you completely, Shellee, thank you for posting this.

Having been the object of gossip, I'm sorry to hear that someone else has had to endure it as well.
