So, here's the thought for today.
When did the world change and how has it changed for you since you were a kid?
I know that for me, it is the whole "Stranger-Danger" thing that changed my world.
I used to think that when I got older, I would be Superwoman and be able to help everyone that I came in contact with.
Today, I saw on the side of the road two guys and their car had run out of gas. While I drove past, the guy had his arms held out as if he were saying, "Come on... Someone give me a ride". Here's the situation: I felt bad as I passed. but then saw the dude he was with. He looked a little "off". I don't know if these guys are sex offenders, or pervs. Who knows their intent? They could have been wonderful people that are the nicest guys that I would ever meet, but could I really take the chance?
I am grateful for one family that took that chance in 1987.
My mom, sister, grandma and I were driving to California for my cousin's high school graduation. About 20 miles before Indio, we got a flat tire. Now, I know how to change a tire, but my dear brother had taken out the Tire Jack when he had taken the van on a skiing trip. We sat there on the side of the road for quite some time. I knew that if we could just stop one person and use their jack, we would be just fine. THEN, a family stopped. They had passed by and seen that there were only women outside of the car. We were fortunate that they were their with good intent. The Dad quickly got under the car and changed the tire. They were so nice and I still remember thinking that they must have been LDS. WE had to stop in Indio for a new tire, but made it there for the graduation.
SO here's the question. Have things gotten so bad so quickly that we can no longer help our fellow man without worrying? I admit that this was 22 years ago and things have changed.
I still feel bad about not stopping to help today, but I will admit that if it were women, I would have thought about it longer... I think.
AND everytime, I see someone who needs help on the side of the road, I think of that family and the little bit of time they gave me that made a little girl grateful for the kindness of strangers.

I don't blame you for not stopping for those guys. It's a sad state our world is in, and Satan's influence is stronger, it seems like there are more evil people out in the open. Still, I saw on TV a story of a guy who spends a lot of time specifically looking for people to help on the highways, and what a good influence he's had on the people he helped. Wish everyone had good intentions like him, and wish we could know who it is safe to help.
Shellee, we live in a different world. I'm not sure if the media has been instrumental in making us perceive our world more dangerously than it really is, I think it has something to do with it. Take the current economic crisis, is it really that bad or is the media feeding the frenzy? Something to think about while you are doing the dishes my dear sister:)
Hey Charmen, I do think that the media dictates alot, but I think I will always be very cautious when it comes to my own safety.
I just found out that Phoenix has the highest rate of kidnappings in the U.S. I think it's a little scary
